Quantum Machines is developing the systems which allow to realize the potential of quantum computers. We are building the operation and control systems of quantum computers - hardware and software. We are standardizing the quantum assembly language, the hardware which will run it, the quantum computing programming language, and more.

In contrast to classical (non quantum) computers, in which the logic gates are physically built into the processor, in quantum computers the logic gates are microwave pulses (at GHz frequencies) which are radiated onto the quantum bits.

We are developing the next generation of quantum controllers – classical processors which are responsible for translating quantum algorithms into pulse sequences, producing the pulses, transmitting them to the quantum bits and receiving the reflected pulses for analysis. For this, we are building a world leading team of engineers and physicists which are ready to push their expertise to the limits and face the great challenges introduced by quantum computing. Our team's challenges are an integration of a wide range of fields, including digital signal processing, FPGA, chip design, RF/microwave engineering, algorithmics, programming & quantum physics.

QM's software challenges:

  • Designing our quantum computing programing language

  • Creating a compiler which compiles our high level language to our processor’s assembly language

  • Solving difficult optimization problems in translating mathematical problems into the language of our unique ALU

  • Developing our UI and programing environment including complex debug tools

  • Developing our back-end, analysis tools, data-management tools

  • Writing the drivers for our system

System/Hardware engineer

We are looking for a highly experienced system/hardware engineer to join our team in order to lead the development of our Quantum Controller's board, which includes FPGA, digital, analog and RF components and require pushing to the limits the capabilities of all three. Since this role is central in our team, we are looking for a creative and innovative person, which is also a real team player, and can work in a truly multi-disciplinary environment, collaborating with digital logic designers, SW engineers, and quantum physicists. As one of the first employees in an extremely promising start-up company, growth opportunities are endless.

Responsibilities:

  • Specify, design and develop the Quantum Controller's board, integrating high-power FPGA, DAC/ADC components, fast inter-card communication and more

  • Leading our work with electronic vendors, including design and manufacturing subcontractors

  • Bring-up and debug circuits in the lab

  • Work closely with our digital design team

  • Collaborate with leading quantum computing teams all over the world, and be their enabler for the scaling-up of quantum computers

Requirements:

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • BSc/MSc/PhD in Physics/Maths/CS – an advantage

  • Very extensive experience in board design – including boards with FPGAs, DACs, ADCs and RF chains

  • Experience with ultra-low phase-noise RF synthesizers and up/downconverters at GHz frequencies – an advantage

  • Experience in developing boards with stringent latency requirements – an advantage

  • Experience with Python / C++ / Verilog – an advantage
