Prof. Dr. Marius Grundmann is co-founder and CEO of SaxonQ, a University of Leipzig spin-off developing room-temperature, diamond-based NV-center quantum computers. He is Professor of Experimental Physics and Semiconductor Physics at Leipzig University, where he also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Earth System Sciences. With nearly 700 peer-reviewed publications and 40 years of experience in semiconductor physics, Grundmann has led SaxonQ’s development of a patented sulfur co-implantation process that raised NV-center qubit fabrication yield from roughly 10% to 85%, enabling the company’s SXQ128 and SXQ512 systems — the first diamond-based NV-center processors to exceed ten physical qubits.

### Description

As NV-center diamond qubits move from single-qubit lab demonstrations to multi-core, commercially available systems, precise and scalable control becomes the critical bottleneck. In this talk, Prof. Dr. Marius Grundmann, co-founder and CEO of SaxonQ, will present SaxonQ’s roadmap for diamond-based, room-temperature quantum computing — from the company’s patented sulfur co-implantation process, which lifted qubit fabrication yield from roughly 10% to 85%, to the recently launched SXQ128 and SXQ512 systems, the first NV-center processors to exceed ten physical qubits, with 8 and 16 entangled qubits per core respectively. Unlike superconducting or trapped-ion platforms, these systems run at room temperature, without dilution refrigerators or vacuum chambers, opening the door to mobile and edge deployment alongside data-center use. Grundmann will discuss how Quantum Machines’ control systems — first validated in a 2025 live demonstration of quantum chemistry and image-recognition on a mobile NV-center computer — deliver the high-fidelity, real-time control needed to coordinate multiple cores at once, and what it will take to scale diamond quantum computers toward SaxonQ’s roadmap of 10,000+ qubit systems.
